Message from the Superintendent March 25, 2013
A Message to all Parents, Students, and Staff:
It has been a long winter season and we have had to cancel and delay more school days than usual during the 2012-2013 school year. I appreciate your patience and support with the many decisions that had to be made and the many early morning telephone calls.
Decisions have been made on the remainder of this school year and the 2013-2014 school calendar has been approved by the school committee. Below is a summary of information on the school calendars:
2012-2013 School Calendar
We will be maintaining the school calendar as is for the remainder of the year. As of the last weather cancellation on Tuesday, March 19 we have encumbered eight (8) snow days and the calendar will be extended until June 27 for staff and students.
1. We will be maintaining Good Friday as a holiday in the school calendar. We had considered changing the holiday to a one-half day to relieve one of the snow days. However, with the Good Friday and Easter holidays so early in the calendar this year, we were unable to reach out to the large number of stakeholders affected by this decision to effectively implement this option.
2. We will be maintaining the scheduled April break during April 15 (Patriot’s Day) through April 19. We had considered looking at the April break as another option to pick-up some of the snow days, but have decided to keep the school calendar as it was originally approved.
We based this decision on the fact that there is room in the school calendar to make up the days and are empathetic to the fact that many parents/students and staff have already booked vacations during this week.
2013-2014 School Calendar
Attached is a copy of the 2013-2014 school calendar for your planning purposes. The calendar was approved by the school committee on April 18, 2013.
